Flagship aircraft to operate daily evening Abu Dhabi service
ABU DHABI – Sawatdee Bangkok! Etihad Airways will introduce its flagship Airbus A380 on its Abu Dhabi–Bangkok route for the first time this October, bringing its most celebrated onboard experiences to Thailand.
The move significantly increases capacity on one of the airline’s most popular leisure corridors ahead of the winter travel season. It also marks the arrival in Bangkok of The Residence, described as the world’s only three-room suite in the sky.
The A380 will operate on the airline’s evening daily service between Zayed International Airport (AUH) and Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s role as a gateway linking Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

Flagship arrival
The deployment follows sustained demand on the Thailand route and strong interest from travellers eager to experience the double-deck aircraft. The A380 features a distinctive upper deck that houses The Residence, nine First Apartments and a dedicated lounge area, alongside a Business cabin configured with fully lie-flat seats. Economy travellers are accommodated in a spacious main deck cabin designed to enhance comfort on long-haul journeys.
Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways, said Bangkok had been among the most requested destinations for the airline’s next A380 service. He noted that the Thai capital’s blend of culture, energy and hospitality made it a fitting match for the carrier’s flagship aircraft.
He added that the introduction of the A380 would provide greater choice and substantial additional capacity on the route, while offering guests the opportunity to combine travel to Thailand with a stopover in Abu Dhabi.
Onboard experience
Across its cabins, the A380 is configured to deliver distinct travel experiences. The First Apartments comprise nine private suites, each equipped with a leather lounge chair and a separate ottoman that converts into an 80-inch fully lie-flat bed. Guests in First also have access to personal vanity units and an exclusive shower room.
The upper deck Business cabin features 70 private spaces, all with direct aisle access and fully flat beds. Between the First and Business cabins sits The Lobby, a serviced lounge and bar area designed for relaxation and social interaction during flight. Comprehensive Wi-Fi connectivity is available throughout the aircraft.
In Economy, the A380 offers 68 Economy Space seats with an additional four inches of legroom, along with 337 standard Economy seats. All are fitted with the airline’s fixed-wing headrests and large pillows, with a dedicated welcome area setting the tone for boarding.
The Residence
Positioned at the front of the upper deck, The Residence accommodates up to two guests in a private three-room suite comprising a living room, bedroom and en-suite bathroom. The bedroom features a double bed, while the bathroom includes a shower facility available at cruising altitude of 40,000 feet.
Guests travelling in The Residence receive dedicated cabin crew service and access to an à la carte dining menu served in their private living space. Offerings include gourmet cuisine presented on designer tableware, alongside options such as champagne, caviar and a signature high tea experience.
The introduction of the A380 to Bangkok comes as Etihad prepares for peak winter demand, with Thailand remaining a key leisure destination for travellers from Europe and the Middle East. Through the airline’s Abu Dhabi Stopover Programme, passengers can also extend their journey to explore the UAE capital, including Saadiyat Island’s beaches and cultural institutions such as Louvre Abu Dhabi, within a single itinerary.
